I am tired of the BCS being blamed for the college football national championship problem this year. I argue that the old system would be worse. The old system would have had USC playing Michigan in the Rose Bowl and Auburn playing OU. In both situations, it is possible that there would end up with two undefeated teams and therefore a controversy of who is the real number 1 team. But under the BCS, the two best teams (according to computers and polls) are playing each other. On the other hand, the old system cheated everyone when in cases like when UW didn't get to play Miami in 1991. The current system wouldn't allow for that to happen.
I personally feel like there should be a playoff system but that isn't going to happen because there is way to much money tied up in the bowls. The schools of the big conferences don't want to give up on all that money. Even if there were a play-off, there would be teams that got "screwed". 65 college basketball teams can't even get selected with out some deserving teams getting left out.
